13th Anniversary of Tupac’s Death
13 years ago today we lost one of the most prolific hip hop artists to date, Tupac Shakur. While I can’t proclaim to be his biggest fan, I can’t deny the impact of his music. Pac’s lyrics touched people from all walks of life, ethnicities, and age groups. It can be said Tupac is the Elvis Presley of hip hop, to many of his fans he will always be alive. I like to think Pac is more like a modern day, black version of Shakespeare. A true wordsmith who other artists imitate, but cannot duplicate.
If Tupac was still alive I think he would be an activist. He would be in Obama’s presidential cabinet. Pac was a revolutionary. It’s in his blood. His mother was a Black Panther and he grew up around the movement in Oakland, CA. Pac’s voice is that of the ghetto youth. Not just black youth, though that was his personal experience. But anyone who has been through shit can relate to Pac’s music. That’s why he was so loved, he spoke the ills of the oppressed.
Tupac was no angel while he was alive, he had done some bad things. But who hasn’t? We all have a rap sheet on some level. I would say Tupac is a thug angel. A muse for urban artists, rappers, writers, and anyone inspired by his words. He is still missed, and will never be forgotten.

I still and always will be one of his biggest fans. I am a 41 yr. old mother of four. In my “soccor mom vehicle” 4 of the 6 CD’s in my CD player are Tupac. I often think about how awesome it would have been to have met and talked to him. He was so far beyond his years. If I live to be an old woman….my grandchildren will be lauging at me b/c I will still be listening to Tupac:)
